"In my teens I suffered from such terrible constipation that I felt literally blocked up from top to toe. In my 20s I got bouts of diarrhoea and terrible wind. I also felt tired all the time, my hair lost its shine and I developed large red spots. I didn't get time to eat properly or exercise". "Last year I sought help from Maryon Stewart at the Women's Nutritional Advisory Service and she advised me to make changes to my diet, start exercising and take vitamin supplements". "I did find the diet difficult to follow in the beginning. It was very restrictive - mainly just salads and rice. But after a few weeks, I was able to reintroduce more foods. Now I avoid wheat products, bran, cakes, chocolate, beans and caffeine, and eat more fresh fruit and vegetables. I also now make sure I have three meals a day". Exercise has also helped to control IBS: "I walk whenever I can, go swimming twice a week and attend a dancing class". "Now my IBS symptoms have virtually disappeared, I have much more energy and my hair and skin look great". |
